Aims
The Ethics Faculty team delivers bespoke innovative lessons through a comprehensive scheme of learning taught by highly skilled and trained staff. The lessons bring together Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, emotional wellbeing, social skills, careers information and guidance, British values, philosophy and ethics, sex and relationship education all taught in a safe, empathic environment with particular emphasis on personal safety and safeguarding paramount at all times
We offer our students a thought-provoking curriculum that offers distinctive opportunities to promote student’s spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development. This allows them to gain a better understanding of the world around them creating rounded students who have respect for other peoples’ views and celebrate the diversity in society.
Curriculum Implementation
The curriculum has been mapped deliberately to ensure that students become experts in our subjects, able to build on knowledge and skills from Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 5.
Religious Studies is taught through a philosophical and ethical understanding to contextualise the content and make it specific to a religion. Links are made clear though highlighting the different themes contained in the curriculum to the sources of authority, beliefs, and practices of the world’s main religions.
Citizenship education revolves around the delivery of the British Values. The curriculum explores what it means to be a citizen in society today through modern and current affairs.
The PSHE and RSE curriculum develops pupil’s knowledge, skills, and attributes which are needed, in order to manage their lives, now and in the future. These skills and attributes are taught in through real-life, age-appropriate case studies and scenarios.
Assessment
Across all 3 Key Stages there are set assessments used across all subjects in all schools in the MAT. There will be end of topic tests at the end of each Citizenship and RS module at KS4 and KS5. At KS3 there are two end of topic assessment for each subject spread out across the academic year. Throughout all lessons, including compulsory KS4 Values lessons, planned retrieval exercises are built in to ensure the retention of knowledge. Frequent mini low-stakes testing will also be a crucial part of lessons.
